Taco Tuesday! (Or any other day that fits your fancy)

Do you want to take your margarita game to the next level? Try this smoky and spicy mezcal margarita cocktail recipe!

Notes: Double this recipe for two margaritas, or continue to scale up if making a pitcher.

This is my partner Will’s Spicy Mezcal Margarita Recipe! (I’m a very lucky gal!) He’s got a heavy hand, which means this is a strong drink made to sip!

The sweetness of the Triple Sec and simple syrup balance out the smoky, spicy flavors of this cocktail. Add more or fewer jalapenos depending on your heat preference.

  • 2 oz Mezcal of your choice (we used 400 Conejos Joven)
  • 1 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1 oz Triple Sec
  • 1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup*
  • 1/2 cup jalapeno
  • Ice
  • Optional: Tajin for the rim

*Recipe for simple syrup below

Prep Ingredients

Run a lime wedge around the top of a margarita glass (you can use short or tall glasses). Cover a small plate or bowl with Tajin and dip the rim to cover.

Chop Jalapenos into slices.

To make 1 cup simple syrup, combine sugar and water (1 cup sugar: 1/2 cup water ) in a saucepan on medium-high heat until sugar is dissolved – then let cool for at least 2 minutes.

Mix Cocktail

Add Mezcal, Grand Marnier, Triple Sec, lime juice, simple syrup, and half of the jalapenos to a shaker. Add cubed ice on top of ingredients (about halfway). Shake generously for 10 -15 seconds.

Finish and serve

Take a slice of lime and jalapeno and place it along the edge of the glass. Add the spicy mezcal margarita mixture (stir in more jalapenos if you like it extra spicy!)

Sip and enjoy your Smoky, Sweet, and Spicy Mezcal Margarita! Cheers!
